Zae

Zae, rendered in American English as /zeɪ/, represents a contemporary male given name whose etymology is most frequently linked—albeit indirectly—to the Hebrew root of Isaiah (Heb. יְשַׁעְיָהוּ, “Yahweh is salvation”), while also functioning independently as an orthographic variant of Zane or Zay; its brevity and phonetic precision resonate with prevailing Anglo-American naming conventions that privilege succinctness and modernity. First documented in the United States Social Security Administration’s records in the late 2000s, Zae has maintained a modest yet consistent presence, its annual occurrences ranging from five newborns (rank 910) in 2008 to a recent twenty-one (rank 903) in 2024. This narrow fluctuation within the lower nine-hundreds ranking over consecutive years underscores both the name’s stability and its marginal appeal among parents inclined toward distinctive but unobtrusive appellations. In onomastic analysis, Zae is regarded as emblematic of a broader shift toward streamlined given names, offering clear phonemic structure without resorting to elaborate affixation or historical archaism.
