Mj

The name Mj, pronounced em-jay (/ˈɛmˌdʒeɪ/), evolved from an informal initialism—often linked to names like Mary Jane or Michael Joseph—into a standalone, unisex given name. Register data show that Mj entered the U.S. top 1,000 in 2005 with five occurrences (No. 869), reached a recent high in 2018 with 17 newborns (No. 895) and ranked 915th in 2024 with nine babies. Its concise, two-letter format reflects a minimalist trend in modern naming, while its cultural connections—ranging from sports legends to recording artists—lend it a familiar yet distinctive appeal. Its brevity may even save a few seconds when signing official forms—a modest advantage for a name that demands so little ink.
