Myla

Myla is usually explained as a feminine form of Myles, a name whose own origin is uncertain. It is also seen as a variant of Mila, from a Slavic word meaning dear or gracious. Name dictionaries do not settle on a single source, so its meaning is best treated as uncertain.

The best-known bearer is the American novelist and musician Myla Goldberg, whose debut novel Bee Season (2000) was adapted into a 2005 film.

In the United States, Myla was a rare choice for most of the 20th century. It entered the top 1,000 in 2005 at 963rd and then climbed quickly, reaching its peak of 181st in 2023, when 1,646 girls were given the name. By 2025 it had slipped slightly to 210th, with 1,436 babies.
